Visual Response 07 'Fifteen' Entry
This is my illustrative entry for the Visual Response initiative by the people at Australia Infront. It is on its 7th year now, and it's a platform for people in the creative industry here to let their hair down and try something new. To celebrate the blog's 15th year the theme for this year is fifteen, so I created a Monogram of the roman numerals XV for this year
Luckily the design has managed to gain top 3 honours this year http://www.australianinfront.com.au/news/article/vr07-top-10

Knativo.co is now live, an initiative that sources design by local artist and printer to create a unique design that signifies their cities. My design is available for preorder for the next 14 days.
I was asked to create a design that signifies Melbourne which is known as the garden city and the home of Aussie rules football, I tried to convey that sense of a garden and the shape of a footy oval as the base of the design.

Flourish
My contribution for the upcoming annual 9x5 exhibition by Illustrators Australia. This year's theme is 'Flourish' and like every year each illustrator was asked to create an original artwork on a piece of 9x5 inch wood which was inspired by artists in the Heidelberg School painting on cigar box lids.
I wanted to capture the theme with my typographic exploration, the design was printed on wood by the great folks at Boomstudios Melbourne.

Innovation vs Imitation - TDK Threesome
This piece was created as part of the Melbourne Threesome Exhibition run by The Design Kids. This collaborative exhibition combines professionals/studios with recent graduates and students. I was paired up with the lovely Cat Wall and Brenton Price for this piece.
We were asked to create a typographic piece based on quotes that revolves around Creativity. We chose to take up the challenge to create an ambigram of the words 'Innovation Versus Imitation' for this poster.
Instead of having the piece in a space, the exhibition is spread out all around the Melbourne CBD which combines a city wide treasure hunt and an exhibition. The first person to snap all the pieces using instagram wins a great prize. Just for the record, Cat won the prize..
You can see some of the photos taken by the treasure hunt participants if you open the following link:

Heaven Lies Beneath a Mother's Feet
The theme for the 2013 Australian Poster Biennale is “A mother’s life is precious”.
Entrants are invited to be inspired and interpret this theme in any way they wish. Worldwide 287,000 mothers die each year. Over the timespan of the Australian Poster Biennale, that’s more than 500,000 mothers. The majority of these deaths happen in the developing world and happen because of inequalities in the standards and conditions of women’s lives. Improvements to reduce maternal deaths, and maternal health in general, can be made if all women were educated, families could earn fair and adequate incomes, communities had access to clean, safe water, access to healthy food, stable living conditions, reasonable standards of hygiene and easy access to basic health services.
The Australian Poster Biennale calls on designers to create a poster based on the theme. The interpretation can be as broad, or as narrow as you wish as long as it is inspired by the issues relating to maternal health. You can approach the issues from a social, political or personal angle.
*extract from the competition website
For my shortlisted entry I quoted a proverb from my upbringing, my faith, and my culture. A Hadith as we call it or lessons from the Prophet's life (PBUH) that states "Heaven lies beneath your mother's feet' which was a lesson to teach one about respecting their mothers. As impressionable as I was when I heard this when I was young and not knowing the difference between sayings and fact I tried to look for the pearly gate underneath my mother's foot much to everyone's glee.
I am fortunate to be part of the selected few who were the finalists for this competition and take part in the showcase exhibition as part of International Design week 2013 here in Melbourne.

The Wide Brown Land
I was invited to represent Australia in the Exquisite Collective project by Helou Studio. I used Dorothea Mackellar's iconic poem that describes the harsh landscape of Australia that she loves as a starting point.
MY COUNTRY
I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains,
Of rugged mountain ranges, of drought and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons, I love her jewel sea,
Her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me.
Though earth holds many splendours, wherever I may die,
I know to what brown country my homing thoughts will fly.
Core of my heart, my country, Land of the rainbow gold,
For flood and fire and famine She pays us back three fold.
I love her far horizons, I love her jewel sea,
Her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me.
Though earth holds many splendours, wherever I may die,
I know to what brown country my homing thoughts will fly.

PURSUE EXCELLENCE IGNORE SUCCESS
Deepak Chopra was asked what was his key for success. The reply was very simple and concise; “Pursue excellence, ignore success”
Another way to look at it is that the journey is more important than the destination, once we feel that we’ve arrived at a place of comfort we stop and rest on our laurels.
Myself and Bobsta14 has taken this philosophy as the core of our collaborative effort, to strive for excellence with the tools and techniques that we have in our arsenal. Playing with the idea over the last few months, we offer this piece as our final outcome.

Conflict/Care
Saysomething.org.au is an initiative by the Victorian Police Force. This year they are holding a poster competition that asked us to 'say something to prevent youth violence'. My entry is based on a quote that a mentor of mine like to say when I have trouble accepting the conflicts that happens around me when I was younger. Particularly when it happens amongst the people that are close to me, may it be parents, mutual friends, or co workers. He likes to say "Conflict happens because people Care" you have an opportunity to focus on either the conflict or the care in other words focus on the reason not merely the action/conflict itself.
I chose to illustrate the intensity of a cockfight to illustrate the fires of youth in mid argument/fight juxtaposed with the copy. In the heat of the conflict we might lose our center which is why the text is situated there, and it is impossible to identify this without a touch of humility which is why the copy at the lower half of the page.

Sindo Media Branding
Branding for Sindo Media in Indonesia. In 2011 the company I was working with owns Seputar Indonesia (Sindo), which is one of the leading newspaper in the country. To cement their position as "the most trusted source for reference" they would launch among other things their own television channel, radio station, and online news portal. Being the in house designer at the time I was involved in the design of the branding and the implementation of the brand across the many mediums that it would cover along with our creative team.
This is the final approved branding for the Sindo Media.

Kratingdaeng Ambition project
Kratingdaeng is the original brand of energy drink that is known to most people in the West as 'Red Bull'. It is popular in South East Asia, and is the market leader for energy drinks. The ambition campaign is set into place as a prelude to their new advertising campaign. The first phase is to ask people what their ambitions are in this national competition, the logo says "what is your ambition today". They could respond via twitter or their facebook page.
The most interesting person or ambition would be recruited as the talent for the second stage of the ambition campaign. The main campaign would use a public figure as the talent sharing their journey to success.
